Bilateral Relations between Estonia and Nepal

Diplomatic Relations

The Republic of Estonia and Nepal formally established bilateral relations on 20 April 1992. On 14 May 2013 the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal issued the Exequatur approving Mr. Nava Raj Dahal as the Honorary Consul of The Republic of Estonia to Nepal, with consular jurisdiction covering the whole of Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.

The Consulate of The Republic of Estonia was officially inaugurated in Kathmandu on 13 November 2013. The Honorary Consulate was jointly inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Vaino Reinart and Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal, Kali Prasad Pokhrel.


Exchange of Visits

A delegation led by then Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Vaino Reinart visited Nepal from 11 to 13 November 2013 to official inaugurate the Consulate of the Republic of Estonia in Kathmandu. During his visit the Deputy Minister met with senior leaders of the political parties in Nepal including UCPN (Maoists) Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN-Maoists Chairman Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’, Nepali Congress leader and former Deputy Minister Sujata Koirala, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Arjun Bahadur Thapa and President Suraj Vaidya and the executive members of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industries along with other persoanilities.

During his visit to Nepal, the Deputy Minister also took time out from his busy schedule to experience Mountain Flight.  


Tourism

Many Estonia tourists are visiting Nepal every year to experience adventure activities in Nepal. There exists a strong possibility of attracting more Estonian tourists to Nepal given the diverse attractions Nepal has in terms of adventure, nature and culture.


Consulate of Estonia in Kathmandu

Since its opening, the Estonian Consulate in Nepal has been providing necessary consular services to Estonians, especially tourists and business delegates, coming to Nepal, while also working to explore, promote and facilitate bilateral relations of trade and business between Estonia and Nepal. The Consulate is in close contact and cooperation of Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board and private sector for identifying joint initiatives that could be undertaken to bring more Estonian tourists to Nepal.
