Nepal Visa Information

Estonians are welcome to apply for Nepalese Visa!!

Tourist Visa:

  1. The foreign tourist visiting Nepal shall be granted the tourist visa.
  2. The tourist visa shall be granted for a period of maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Visa years begins January until December).
  3. A tourist who has departed before the expiry of the period specified in the visa issued in a visa year shall not be allowed to use the visa by adding the remaining period to another visa year.
  4. If any foreigner who has entered into Nepal towards the end of a visa year desires to spend even the period during which he may stay in Nepal with the tourist visa of the other visa year, he may use such facility.

 

Applying Visa Online

Tthe Department of Immigration (DoI) encourages all foreigners travelling to Nepal to avail the online application service. Please log on to http://online.nepalimmigration.gov.np/ and fill up and submit the form online after choosing the preferred category of visa.
Online application systems run 24 hours and can be accessed from anywhere at any time. Once you make online submission, the application system shall hold your application for a maximum of 15 days.  On successful submission, you will get the receipt through your email. Please produce the receipt while getting the visa at any of land and/or entry points (ports of entry) operated by Department of Immigration.
Steps for Online Visa Applicants

The online visa application once started should be completed at one go. Please refer to the following checklist before filling an online application form:

  • Valid passport
  • Digital copy of color photograph (size 1.5 by 1.5 inch)
  • Permanent mailing address of your country of residence and detail address in Nepal, e-mail, telephone numbers both landline & mobile
  • Print the receipt which includes the deadline for contacting the Immigration Authority is mentioned in the receipt.
  • The receipt also lists out the documents you have to produce before the Immigration Authority.
  • Contact any of designated Immigration offices with the receipt and documents as mentioned in the receipt together with necessary fee.

 

Visa Collection Points:

You can either apply at a Nepalese Embassy in or nearby your home country or receive Nepalese visa on-arrival at any of the designated land and air entry points.
Tourist Visa can be obtained on arrival in any of the following entry/exit points:
1. Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal Kakarvitta, Jhapa
2. Immigration offices along Nepal-India Border: Kakarvitta (Jhapa), Birganj (Parsa), Belahia( Bhairahawa), Jamunaha (Nepalgunj), Mohana (Dhangadhi) and Gaddachauki (Mahendranagar)
3. Immigration office along Nepal-China (Tibet) Border: Kodari (Sindhupalchowk)
4. Immigration office in Pokhara, Kaski (For Visa Extension only)

Entry validity:

Six months from the date of issue. The validity of visa dates are counted from the date of arrival in Nepal.

*Children under the age of 10 shall be issued with a visit visa free of cost.

Visa Extension:

A tourist visa can be extended from the Department of Immigration and Pokhara Immigration Office for a total of 120 days. An additional 30 days visa may be granted on reasonable grounds from the Department. Over the course of a visa year, a tourist cannot stay in Nepal more than cumulative 150 days.

Other Types of Visas:

Diplomatic Visa

Eligibility:  Diplomatic Passport holders and their family members.
Duration: Reciprocal basis ( in the recommendation of their respective Diplomatic Missions)
Issuing Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Requirement: A note verbale from the concerned diplomatic mission.

Official Visa

Eligibility:  Non-Diplomatic personnel of Missions and their family Members, Honorary/Nepalese Consulate Generals/Consuls and their family members(during the time of their visit to Nepal), Advisers and Specialists, working in Nepal under the official agreement and their family members, UN Agencies personnel, UN document holders and their family members,  Personnel working in the International institutions or Regional Organizations in Nepal and their family members.
Requirement: A note verbale from the concerned diplomatic mission.
Issuing Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For 30 days entry-Embassies and the Immigration Office at the entry points in Nepal.

Business Visa

Eligibility: Foreign Investors or their authorized agents and their family members.
Investors in export business and their family members.
Requirements:  Certificate of authority. Recommendation from the concerned Ministry/Department. Seven copies of application forms with photographs.
A copy of passport including the last Nepalese visa.

Student Visa

Eligibility: Students-Research Scholars,Teachers and their family members.
Requirement:  Recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education, work Permit for Teachers. Bank Balance certificate, Seven copies application forms with photographs.
Duration: Up to one year, however, it can be extended.
Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.

Interim (Transit) Visa

Immigration Officer is allowed to issue an interim (transit) visa to any foreign national who needs to spend a night in Nepal before traveling to a third country or to any passenger of an aircraft that has made an emergency landing at Nepalese airport. Such a visa will be valid for one day.

Residential Visa

Eligibility: Renowned international personalities.
Foreigners, providing special contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of Nepal
Foreign passport holder of Nepalese origin.
Investors who invest minimum of 1 million US$ at one time on the Industrial sector.
Foreigners, interested to settle in Nepal without doing any business.
Requirements:  Seven copies of application forms with photographs. A copy of passport. A copy of the last Nepalese visa (if have stayed in Nepal). Bank balance or statement equivalent to US$ 20,000.00 per year (only for those foreigners who are interested to settle down in Nepal, but are not engaged in any type of business).

Documents Required for Visa Application

  • Duly completed Visa application form.
  • Valid Passport (with a validity of a minimum period of six months).
  • One PP size Photograph.
  • If applying in person at the embassy, please bring your passport and cash for the visa fee - cards/personal cheques are not accepted.
  • If applying by post, you MUST send your passport with your application.
  • If applying by post, please enclose postal order or bank draft made payable to 'Embassy of Nepal' for the visa fee
  • If applying by post, please enclose a Self Addressed Envelope with (Recorded delivery) stamp with the application
  • Visa applications made in person need 24 hours processing time.
  • Application by post may take up to two weeks to be processed.
